Abstract

Cognitive decline is one of the common problems experienced by the elderly as a result of the aging process, which affects the ability to think, remember, understand, and make decisions. This condition can impact independence and quality of life among older adults. This study aimed to describe the cognitive function of elderly individuals in Meger Village, Ceper Sub-district, Klaten Regency. The research design used was descriptive with a quantitative approach. The study population consisted of 83 elderly individuals, and the sampling technique employed was simple random sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis to describe the characteristics of respondents and their cognitive status. The results showed that the average age of respondents was 68 ± 5.8 years, with the majority being female (45 respondents; 54.2%). Most respondents had completed elementary school education (43 respondents; 51.8%) and worked as laborers (35 respondents; 42.2%). Based on the assessment of cognitive function, most respondents (64 individuals; 77.1%) had normal cognitive function, while 13 respondents (15.7%) experienced mild cognitive impairment and 6 respondents (7.2%) experienced severe cognitive impairment. These findings indicate that most elderly individuals in Meger Village still possess good cognitive function, although a small proportion have begun to experience cognitive decline. The results are expected to serve as a basis for promotive and preventive efforts to maintain and improve cognitive function among the elderly population
